Solar Powered Signs

How solar house signs work

A solar house sign has an integrated solar panel that charges during the day, and LED lighting that switches on automatically at dusk. There is no mains connection, no cable to run and no electrician to book: fitting is simply a matter of mounting the sign where the panel can see daylight. That makes these signs well suited to homes set back from the road, unlit driveways and rural addresses, where an unlit number cannot be seen by a delivery driver after dark.

The three styles in the range

• Solar house signs (black, grey or white): a composite aluminium panel, 280 × 160 mm, with 18 layouts. Rated IP65 for year-round outdoor use and made in the UK.
• Solar mirror house signs (black, grey or white plate): laser-cut mirror lettering in gold, rose gold or silver that reflects light by day and is illuminated at night. Choose from 180 × 180 mm square, 280 × 160 mm or 300 × 170 mm, with four layouts per finish.
• Cool white solar house sign: 280 × 160 mm with crisp cool-white illuminated text and eight layouts.

Siting, performance and dispatch

Place the sign where the panel gets several hours of daylight; a north-facing wall under deep eaves will charge less in winter. A full charge gives roughly six to eight hours of light, which covers the hours when visitors and drivers are most likely to be looking for your number; expect less in midwinter, when there is less daylight to charge from. Each sign is supplied with the screws and fixings needed to mount it. Hold the sign in place first, check with a level and step back to see how it reads from the pavement, then mark and drill the holes. Orders placed before 2pm on a working day (Monday to Friday, excluding bank holidays) are dispatched the same day; later orders go out the next working day. Delivery is free and tracked, to UK addresses only.
