House Signs

Choosing a house sign material

Every sign in this range is made to order with your house number, and most layouts can add a street or house name. The material is the main decision, because it sets the look, the price and how the sign behaves outdoors.

• Acrylic (from £7.99): a dual-panel acrylic plate, 200 × 130 mm, in oval or rectangle and five colour pairings. The most affordable option.
• Composite aluminium (from £10.99): a waterproof composite panel with UV-printed text, 200 × 130 mm or 280 × 160 mm, supplied with standoffs, screws and wall plugs.
• Mirror (from £13.99): laser-cut gold, rose gold or silver mirror lettering on a 3 mm black or grey acrylic plate, 200 × 130 mm or 280 × 160 mm.
• Solar powered (from £15.99): self-illuminating signs with an integrated solar panel that light automatically at dusk, with no wiring.

Getting the size right

A longer address needs a wider plate. As a rule of thumb, choose 280 × 160 mm or larger if you are adding a street name, or if the sign will be read from the road rather than the doorstep. The 200 × 130 mm plates suit a number on its own or a short name beside the door. The solar mirror range also comes in a square 180 × 180 mm format for narrow gate posts.

Making sure the number can be read

Three things matter more than style if the number has to be found quickly by a visitor, a courier or an ambulance crew:

• Contrast: white on black, black on white and white on anthracite grey are the clearest pairings we make.
• Size: 280 × 160 mm or larger to be read from the road; 200 × 130 mm for a number beside the door.
• Position: at eye level, near the door or at the boundary, not hidden by planting or an open gate.

An unlit number is effectively invisible on an unlit street, so on a dark frontage choose a solar powered sign, which lights itself at dusk. Mirror signs reflect headlights and porch light but are not lit themselves. Every range includes number-only layouts if you would rather leave the street name off.

Personalisation, dispatch and guarantee

You choose a layout on the product page, type your wording exactly as it should appear, and the sign is produced to that text. Because each sign is personalised, please check spelling before ordering: there is a 15-minute window to change an order placed before 2pm. Orders placed before 2pm on a working day (Monday to Friday, excluding bank holidays) are dispatched the same day; later orders go out the next working day. Delivery is free and tracked, to UK addresses only. Signs are covered by the SignStation 2-year guarantee.
